Goings On With Us and You!

What did you do this past week?  Hopefully yours was like ours, and you were busy having fun!

On St. Patricks day we were at the Wind Down Your Week event  at Oliver’s Public House. This was a great opportunity to engage in a side-by-side tasting of Wisconsin Brewing Company’s Wiskator and Bourbon Barrel Wiskator aged in our used J. Henry & Sons Wisconsin Straight Bourbon barrels!  Head Brewmaster Kirby Nelson was there along with Joe and Liz to set the evening off right and to answer any questions guests may have about their flights of fancy.

Last Monday night was a big event at The Edgewater, Madison Magazine’s Top Shelf Winter Taste! We wound up with a pretty incredible booth, and we were surrounded with absolutely delicious food. On one side, we had the great folks from Gristle Catering, and on the other, Gail Ambrosius Chocolatier.

Joe and Jamie were busy pouring J. Henry & Sons Wisconsin Straight Bourbon, our cask strength Patton Road Reserve, and our Cognac-finished Bellefontaine Reserve. Incidentally, the Bellefontaine Reserve was absolutely divine with the chocolates! Thanks Gail!

We had some other great friends there, including the Lewis Station Winery. If you’re not aware, they have created a wine called Wisconsin Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet which is also finished in our own ex-J. Henry & Sons barrels.

In all, the food was amazing, the wine was delicious and, of course, the whiskey was incredible! Liz was at a town board meeting preparing for the Outstanding In The Field, farm-to-table dinner to be held on our farm on July 29th this summer.

We have some other great events coming up in the near future (and as more are set up, we’ll definitely let you know):

Tonight, March 28th, we have a dinner event at the Morel Restaurant in Milwaukee. Morel is a farm-to-table restaurant that features locally-grown and produced foods and beverages. J. Henry & Sons will be featured that night, paired with an incredible four course meal.

On Sunday, April 2nd, you should follow us to Minnesota for the 3rd Annual Whiskey on Ice! This is that state’s big whiskey celebration, and is being held at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis. We are one of 100 distilleries that have been invited to participate at the Grand Tasting event. While VIP tickets are sold out, tickets for General Admission are available for $85.00 and can be purchased directly from their website. Or if you are in the Madison area, stop by Feed the Need at the Madison College for sumptuous food samples from several great restaurants in the Madison area, as well as wine, beer and spirits samples. Proceeds go to support The River Food Pantry. The next day we’re off to Baltimore for the American Distilling Institute’s Annual Craft Spirits & Vendor Expo, where our unique Bourbons will compete alongside hundreds of others in hopes to bring home medals. This event will take place at the Baltimore Convention Center on April 3rd – 6th. Before you know it, Saturday, May 6th is upon us. What? You don’t know what makes May 6th special? Why, that’s the Kentucky Derby!  You don’t need to run out to Kentucky, though. Last year we had such a fun time in the J. Henry & Sons Tasting Room for the Derby that we’re doing it again. We’ll watch the big event, have celebrity bartender, Mariah Renz making juleps and cocktails, some southern fried snacks and games and prizes. There will be a hat wearing and derby dress competition, race cheering and a Winner’s Circle/Churchill Downs photo opportunity. More information and tickets can be purchased here J. Finally, July 29th is Outstanding in the Field which is being held at our farm. We are so proud to have been chosen for their first distillery dinner! Guest Chef Dan Fox of Heritage Tavern will be here, and several of our fellow local farmers and even a cheesemaker will be contributing to the meal. Thanks to everyone’s excitement, tickets for this event sold out in no time flat!
